A native Californian, she has lived most of her life in San Diego and Orange Counties. Her real estate career began in 1978 helping families relocate within South Orange County. Several years were spent in commercial real estate in acquisition and sales of larger multi-family apartments. Prior to 1978, she was employed for 7 years within the title insurance industry helping developers with the filing of subdivision maps and interfacing with the Department of Real Estate to obtain the  Preliminary ("pink") Subdivision Report and Final ("white") Subdivision Public Report.

Barbie also specializes in "REO" bank-owned properties.
